Concerns about the safety of disposable plastic lunch boxes recur from time to time.
Disposable plastic lunch boxes are usually used in local food enterprises. They are usually made of polypropylene (PP), expanded polystyrene (EPS, commonly referred to as poly foam), polystyrene (PS) or polyethylene terephthalate (PET); Among them, PP can withstand the temperature of 100 ℃ to 120 ℃ for a long time, while the other three types of plastics are not suitable for keeping food above 100 ℃.
As early as 2005, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department conducted a joint study with the Consumer Council on the safety of disposable containers.
The results show that plastic disposable food containers provided by local restaurants, retailers and school lunch box suppliers are unlikely to cause food safety problems if properly used; The study suggested that the food trade should identify specific requirements, such as the temperature and acidity of the food concerned, and purchase containers that meet these requirements.
